Sculptural project "Large Piece of Hare" with 7,000 Dürer hares in the Hauptmarkt square, Nuremberg
Colombia, Europe, United States, Mauritius, China, Japan, Australia and Russia: Ottmar Hörl's Dürer's Hare has conquered the whole world as a friendly cultural ambassador.
To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Albrecht Dürer's famous watercolor The Large Piece of Turf (1503), Ottmar Hörl transformed Nuremberg's market square into a 2,500 square meter visual lawn by adding 7,000 Dürer hares greens.
Many aspects of Ottmar Hörl's artistic attitude have much in common with Albrecht Dürer.
By rendering a three-dimensional creation respectful of Dürer's hare, translating it to the serial principle of the 21st century, Hörl celebrates the return and revival of one of Albrecht Dürer's best-known works of art.
