Sculptural project "Works Outing", Hohenkarpfen / Swabian Alb
In 2009, 1000 meerkats made an outing to the Hohenkarpfen region in the Swabian Alb.
Far from their natural habitat in southern Africa, they symbolize globalization and the increasing accessibility of all corners of the earth.
The Hohenkarpfen estate will be the destination of a very special “Works Outing”.

Why is that ? These friendly lemurs inspire positive feelings in anyone who observes them. Perhaps this is because, in some ways, their behavior resembles that of human beings.
They play tirelessly, disappearing into their underground caves, suddenly appearing in another place, digging, playing, sunbathing, employing babysitters or teaching their young how to hunt.
A member of the clan is always on the lookout, watching and monitoring the surroundings.
It is just this characteristic posture of the standing sentinel that Ottmar Hörl chose for his meerkats, thus adding a new image to the many artistic events he has organized in public so far.

Playful and a little bizarre at the same time, meerkats, normally living in the arid savannahs and deserts of southern Africa, give a sunny yellow color to the early autumn landscape around the Hohenkarpfen mountain.
